Moving and Deleting Apps on iPhone Home Screen
Moving and deleting apps will give you quicker access to your most important and useful apps.
Moving apps
You only need to use three basic gestures to move apps using Voiceover:
- One finger swipe up and/or down to access menu options
- One finger double tap to activate a menu option
- Three finger scroll left and/or right to move between home screen pages
To move an app:
- Select the app or folder on home screen you want to move by touching its icon.
- Perform a one finger swipe up or down. You’ll hear “Edit Mode.”
- Double tap to bring up the Edit Menu.
Caution: If you wait too long at this point to take some action, iOS will exit from Edit Mode.
- Swipe up or down until you hear “Drag” and the app name. Double tap to initiate the drag.
- Swipe left or right to find the destination where you want to drop the app.
Note: If the destination location is on another page, use three finger swipe left or right to go to the desired page, then use a one finger swipe left or right to the desired placement on the page.
- Swipe up or down to hear options.
Here there are multiple drop actions for you to take. When moving one app, choose Complete Drag and double tap. You’ll hear “Drop Complete.”
- At this point, you are still in Edit Mode. You can:

- Repeat the above steps to move more items
- Press the home button to exit edit mode
- Swipe up or down and choose the finish editing option
- Let Edit Mode time out after a few seconds
Deleting Apps
To delete an app:
- Select the app on home screen you want to delete by touching its icon.
- Perform a one finger swipe up or down. You’ll hear “Edit Mode.”
- Double tap to bring up the Edit Menu.
- Swipe up or down and choose Delete and double tap.
- You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete the app. Swipe right to choose the Okay Button and double tap.
