Second Sense - Beyond Vision Loss

Rosemarie Fortney

My love of making art continues to grow well-beyond my studies at Cardinal Stritch and Mt. Mary Universities in the Midwest.

My means of artistic expression cannot help but be influenced by the progression of visionloss from Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Limited tunnel-vision which some may view as a “limiting factor” of RP, I find artistically “frames” and presents to me a dynamic statement and composition of global warming (“Our World on the Brink”). Bright colors explode (“Resurrection at Dawn”) and surely excite my remaining retina. My personal journey into blindness is defined by remaining light which defines contrast and shapes (“Into the Darkness”) and (“Dripping Ferns”) – treasured impressions for which I am extremely grateful as a visual artist.
