“My style is like me, still evolving and a little quirky. Working with limited field, and now loss of color perception, I am incorporating my desire to try new formats, media and styles to reinterpret what I see. It is a challenge to paint/draw large objects like buildings and keep them scaled properly when I see only a pane of window glass, an animal, or the veins of a leaf unless I am VERY far away.
“But I am always up for a challenge. That’s good because life is full of them and I am not backing down.
“In past years, I have just made my art, staying true to my interest in architectural paintings, mainly historic structures. I have taken a few classes, and now have improved skills. Knowledge is powerful and builds confidence. I am still painting with a focus on old buildings, saving them one painting at a time; capturing images from rural southeastern Pennsylvania; and broadening subject matter.
“Being vision-impaired just makes me more determined to prove that my community is smart, creative, and only as disabled as we perceive ourselves to be. I refuse to let my eye disease define me; the more I am challenged, the stronger I will fight back.”
