Second Sense - Beyond Vision Loss

Frank Valliere

Raised in New England and schooled in Boston, I explored many mediums and subjects. I have worked for the last twenty-five years as an all-purpose illustrator, designer, fabricator, and restorer of everything from jewelry and handbags to furniture.

I have been painting landscapes for about twenty five years. Much of my private study deals with my lifelong interest in rural landscapes, and I am taken in by the different atmospheres, patterns and colors. Light, color, shape, and texture combinations form the atmosphere that drives my work. Although there are rarely people in my landscapes, their presence is implied by old barns and retired, old vehicles. I believe that old buildings, vehicles, and other objects of human existence left to the environment seem to be telling their former owner’s story: where they have been, what they have done, and what they are doing now. They seem to take on more and more of the characteristics of their surroundings. My paintings rarely happen quickly, instead they take months and sometimes years to mature.

My work has been exhibited around the country and internationally.
