Raised in New England and schooled in Boston, Frank Valliere explored many mediums and subjects. He has worked the last twenty-five years as an all purpose illustrator, designer, fabricator and restorer of everything from jewelry, handbags, furniture, gardens and landscapes, vehicle toys and bicycles. Frank has been painting landscapes for about twenty-five years. Light, color, shape, and texture combine to provide the atmospheres that drive his work. There are rarely people in his landscapes, but their presence is often implied by old barns and retired or just old working vehicles. His paintings rarely happen quickly. They seem to grow over time, taking weeks, months, and sometimes years to reach maturity. As well as being in numerous collections, Frank exhibits regularly around the country and in international shows. The bulk of my private deals with a lifelong interest in the rural landscape. I am taken in by the different atmospheres, the random patterns and colors. Old buildings, vehicles, and other objects of human existence left to the environment seem to be telling their stories: where they’ve been, what they’ve done, and what they are doing now, as they settle in for the long haul, taking on more and more the character of their surroundings- the harsh, beautiful truth.
