Second Sense - Beyond Vision Loss

Annie Hesse

Annie Hesse is visually attracted to what she cannot see with the unaided eye. The camera’s lens enables her to “freeze” time and focus on the details that she wouldn’t ordinarily see or which are otherwise invisible. In other cases, she is inspired by the play of light and shadows. Hesse’s intention is to show the viewer not only what she sees, but how she sees it.

Her early work shows a preference for Black and White and experimental film stock documenting her cultural milieu.

Her more recent work is informed by color, shape, contrast and texture found in nature and fabricated structures.
