“In 2018 I became legally blind. Angry, confused and simply mad, my world was now upside down.
“I began living in the shadows of each day. I avoided people, places, friends, the sun. Up to then, I made my living by being a commercial fashion photographer. Now, what I worked all my life to be, was no longer possible.
“Today, I in PEACE. Working mostly from memory, my art practice questions the power of memories. It’s as if my memories are a receipt of my existence. Without them, I would be completely blind visually and in spirit. I can say that today I see farther than I ever did before.”
Abel was born in Mexico and now lives in Logan Sqare. He earn his BFA from Columbia College, his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and his CDM from DePaul University. He worked as a Commercial Fashion Photographer from 1993 until 2014.
