Winter Travel: Tips for the Traveler with Vision Loss

Friday, January 8 - 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Ice, snow, sleet and rain complicate anyone’s travel plans no matter your vision. But for the traveler with vision loss, winter travel presents its own risks and challenges. You’ll want to make sure you are prepared before setting out. And, being prepared also means making sure you have a plan B.

Our virtual Winter Travel workshop hosted by Brad Blair, orientation and mobility intern from Northern Illinois University, shares his knowledge and experience as a traveler with vision loss. Brad can answer your specific questions about winter travel and also addresses the following:

  • accessible ways to check weather conditions
  • winter clothing and footwear
  • bad weather conditions on public transit or paratransit
  • safe alternatives for running errands in poor weather conditions
  • tips for traveling with a cane and guide dog
  • adaptations for the low vision individual
