If you are new to using a computer or new to using adaptive technology, our comprehensive computer classes are the perfect option for you.
Taught by a trained educational professional who uses the adaptive technology on a daily basis, these classes are practical and thorough. Our training environment is supportive and friendly, encouraging you to master the skills and become an independent user.
The curriculum includes four topics: Introduction to Windows and screen-magnification software, Word, Internet and Email, and Excel. Classes meet for 3 hours, 2 times a week. A description of the content of the class is outlined below.
Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with the computer keyboard and the ability to type at a steady pace
This course is a solid introduction to the Windows operating system using adaptive technology (either screen reader or screen magnification). It covers launching programs and managing files, as well as the basic concepts related to the operation and usage of screen magnification.
Basic word processing is covered, including creating a new document, entering text and saving files. A brief introduction to Internet Explorer is also provided.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Customize settings in their AT (screen-magnification) and in Windows®
Prerequisites: Introduction to Windows or equivalent
This course covers the use of MS Word®. Topics include entering text, using various editing techniques, saving files, formatting text and printing documents. Other topics include inserting page numbers and dates, creating tables and using the spell checker.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

This course covers navigating web pages, searching the web, filling out online forms, and sending and receiving email using an online email account. Participants finish the class having their own online email account.

This course covers navigating a worksheet and workbook, editing or creating a new worksheet and workbook, editing or creating a formula, using the fill command to quickly enter data, and formatting data. The course also covers printing, moving worksheets, and creating and using a template.
