It’s Spring! Do You Have the Gardening Itch?

Thursday, April 22 - 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Have you been bitten by the gardening bug yet? Last spring and summer, with the pandemic raging and everyone stuck at home, many people turned to gardening for something to do. Fragrant flowers and fresh vegetables grown without pesticides were a happy product of last year. No matter your abilities or where you live, gardening is a hobby everyone can do. Whether you want to start small with a container of herbs or turn a section of lawn into a vegetable garden, you can get your questions answered at our Getting Started with Gardening workshop.

Kathy Austin, a former University of Illinois master gardener, answers your questions about container gardening, perennial gardens and vegetable beds. She’ll also discuss the challenges of gardening with diminishing vision and the adaptations she has made to keep gardening enjoyable.

You’ll learn about:

  • essential tools and safety considerations
  • plant identification
  • orientation in the garden
  • resources you can rely on

To join the workshop, call our conference line at 312-809-1004. For questions, email Kathy Austin.
