Second Sense - Beyond Vision Loss

Do I Need Orientation and Mobility Training?

Tuesday, October 15 - 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

If you are experiencing vision loss, you may begin to feel reluctant to travel the way you used to. Feeling afraid is natural when you consider it is difficult or impossible to see where you are going. However, the feelings may snowball until you have restricted yourself to just going out with a partner or in conditions that you feel the safest. Like only during the day.

To address your fears and concerns, our Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist, Eleni Gaves, will facilitate an honest and open discussion about what is involved in training, where do you start and what to expect from training. This discussion will help you better understand how O&M training can help with the fears you may be facing like:

  • fear of getting lost, run over or falling off a train platform,
  • fear of being vulnerable to robbery or assault and
  • fear of going to unfamiliar places alone.

Can’t make it in person? Our conference call line is available for this workshop. Call 312-582-2994, conference bridge 301 and pin 1111#.
