Kathy reading brailleWould you like to read elevator panels, play cards and other games, or make labels for your spices or medications?

Braille is a great tool for labeling a wide variety of items for easier access. This sixteen-week class starts with the very basics to help you build a foundation of simple braille.

Our braille class will:

  • introduce finger positions and hand movements for becoming an efficient braille reader
  • teach you to read and write the alphabet, numbers and punctuation,
  • give you a working knowledge of reading elevator panels, calendars and phone numbers, and
  • provide ideas for personal use at home.

For your first lessons in January, you’ll work one-on-one with Polly to master the correct finger positioning and tracking skills. After these initial lessons, class will meet as a group on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 pm February through May.

A slate and stylus are required for this class. These items can be purchased in our Product Center for $10.50. To learn more about our Beginner Braille class and to register, call our front desk or email email Polly Abbott..
