Second Sense - Beyond Vision Loss

An Introduction to Accessible GPS Apps for Independent Travel

Wednesday, December 2 - 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

The development of accessible GPS apps has made it possible to get around and find destinations like never before. You can get pedestrian-friendly walking directions, plot a route to your favorite store or discover the restaurant you never knew was there. With this technology tucked into your pocket, you can travel with a sense of curiosity while remaining safe.

At this mobility workshop, we welcome Brad Blair, our orientation and mobility intern from Northern Illinois University, along with Eleni Gaves, Second Sense’s orientation and mobility specialist. Brad provides us with an overview of how GPS can be used as a mobility tool and explains why this technology is an enhancement to good orientation and mobility skills.

This workshop is geared to those who are not familiar with GPS apps or how they work.

You can join us virtually on our conference line, 312-809-1004.

This overview includes:

  • how GPS can be used safely while traveling
  • Types of situations where GPS is not recommended
  • demonstrations of accessible GPS apps for people with vision loss

To register for this workshop, please call our office at 312-236-8569 or email Brad Blair.
