Second Sense - Beyond Vision Loss

Advanced Orientation and Mobility: Navigating Public Transit, Chicago’s CTA

Sunday, March 3 - 10:00 am - 2:30 pm

Navigating public transportation can be overwhelming for any traveler, especially if you are unfamiliar with the system.

  • How do you know what time the train is coming?
  • Which side of the tracks do you wait on?
  • How do you pay?
  • Where should you wait on the platform?
  • How do you know where the doors are?
  • Who should you ask if you need assistance?

In a city where public transit is accessible and readily available, you’ll want to take advantage of using this travel option. Chicago’s bus and train systems can get you almost anywhere you need to go. Once some of these questions can be answered, public transit may seem less daunting.

In our next Advanced Orientation and Mobility outing, we’ll start with an information session at Second Sense to answer any and all questions about accessing the CTA system. You’ll learn some tips and tricks for riding the CTA trains around Chicago. We’ll then take a ride on the CTA’s Blue Line to a lunch spot in Wicker Park where discussion will continue on traveling on public transit.

Itinerary:

10:00 am: arrive at Second Sense
10:00-10:45am: discussion and information session
10:45 – 11:00 am: walk to Blue Line station at Clark and Lake or use Pedway to Washington Blue Line station
