Technology Solutions and Training

David Flament, the Guild's adaptive technology instructor shows a student how to use the keyboard to navigate the computer.

Technology can make your life easier -- and we can teach you how. From cell phones to digital book readers and iPads to PCs, our classes, workshops and one-on-one instruction provide all the training options you need to master these tools.

Even if you have never used a computer or picked up a cell phone, we can teach you the skills you need in a supportive and friendly environment.

If you already have computer skills and are just looking to add to your knowledge, we offer a variety of one-day classes on specific topics or individual instruction on more advanced skills.

Comprehensive Computer Training Classes

Adaptive software that enlarges the information on the computer monitor or that provides speech output can enable a person with vision loss to use a computer. We teach screen-magnification software (ZoomText, MAGic and Windows Magnifier) and screen-reading software (JAWS, Window-Eyes and NVDA) with the most common software programs, including MS Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and web-based email.

One-Day Classes and Workshops

We offer a creative and constantly changing variety of one-day classes during the week and on weekends to meet your needs. From using the iPhone to using Twitter and performing advanced tasks in MS Word to performing job searches online, our classes teach you to use the latest tools and applications.

Individual Technology Tutoring

Our technology tutors can help with a variety of adaptive technology -- from Apple products to screen-reading and magnification programs to the popular Victor Reader Stream and much more. Tutors are available to help you in person in our Adaptive Technology Center or over the phone.

Tech Exchange

Second Sense hosts an online community of adaptive technology users for you to ask questions, share information and learn from other members. Anyone is welcome to join. Sign up for Tech Exchange and you will also receive our quarterly Tech Times newsletter.
