Why Donate to Second Sense?
According to the American Foundation for the Blind (using data from the National Health Interview Survey-Disability Supplement) there are 289,730 non-institutionalized individuals over the age of 18 living in Illinois who are blind or visually impaired.
Second Sense has been building the confidence and competence of adults with vision loss for 60 years. Our approach is innovative and client-centered. Our professional staff works individually with our clients in a supportive environment to ensure our programs equip them with the skills they need to reach their personal and professional goals.
Our services are designed to help people with vision loss adjust to their new lives, accept their new identity as a person with vision loss and learn new skills—and new ways to do old skills—in order to live healthy, independent and active lives.
Each year we serve over 500 people through our individual and small group services. We serve an additional 3,000 through group trainings, presentations, referral services and informative newsletters.
