In the latest installment, Lauri Dishman, our counselor, address bias in the workplace.

"That right there, in my opinion, is the problem. This knee-jerk reaction based on some stereotype from the world at large that workers who are blind are automatically less productive or pose a liability."

Visit our other blog: Jalapeños in the Oatmeal. Written by Second Sense member and National Endowment of the Arts Fellow Jeff Flodin, this is a must-read and irreverent take on vision loss. See what Jeff has to say and join in this fantastic conversation!

Second Sense

Stella, Jim, Gina and Maria are socializing by the Bean in Millenium Park on a crisp Fall day. We help adults live active and independent lives, working individually with each person to address their specific goals. Our services are offered free-of-charge in a supportive environment by professionally trained staff both at Second Sense and at various community sites.

Creating new possibilities

Maria“I think that is why I like your new name, Second Sense. It makes perfect sense to me. When I lost my vision, I lost so much more than just my eyesight. I also lost my confidence and a sense of who I am. I very much appreciate how your staff works with each of us to help us accept our vision loss so we can be who we truly are."
